Caitlyn & Kyle

Caitlyn and Kyle first reached out to me earlier in the year with plans for a big traditional wedding - ceremony, reception, the whole shebang. We met over coffee to chat, and we clicked instantly. You could feel it straight away: their connection was real, electric, and rooted in a kind of fierce, hilarious love that doesn’t come around often.

But as the months passed, something shifted. They decided to strip back all the noise and pressure of planning a big event and focus on what truly mattered to them - starting their marriage in a more intentional, meaningful way. What came to life instead was a deeply personal elopement at the stunning Sunken Gardens at UWA, followed by a low-key family barbecue and, later, a party with their wider crew. It couldn’t have suited them more.

How It All Started (from Caitlyn’s POV)

“We met in late 2020 at work - me during my cross shift, unknowingly standing about 20 metres from a guy I’d never seen or spoken to. I let out one of my (very loud) laughs, and Kyle looked over, curious about the noise and, apparently, the girl behind it. A few days later, I made a slightly questionable mistake on the job that almost cost me my role. Kyle saw his moment, not to offer help, but to stir me up about it.”

“That moment turned into hours of talking, which turned into days, and somehow, we’ve never stopped. The rest is history. Or, in our case, equal parts chaos and comedy.”

Since then, these two have been adventuring around Australia together, side by side, writing their story on the road, one stop at a time.

The Elopement

We met Kyle first, waiting under the canopy of trees at UWA’s Sunken Gardens, as he shared how earlier that morning they’d officially signed their marriage papers - made legally binding by one of their best mates. It was already shaping up to be a day full of sentiment, laughter, and all the right kinds of tears.

Then Caitlyn arrived, and oh my, she was a vision. Elegant, glowing, grounded. She walked toward Kyle for their first look, and the emotion that spilled between them was unforgettable. That pause before seeing your person, followed by the relief and love in their eyes when you finally do? It’s one of my favourite moments to photograph, every time.

Hand in hand, they walked to their ceremony spot. The setting was lush, quiet, and full of soft afternoon light filtering through the trees. They exchanged personal vows beneath the greenery, just the two of them, surrounded by the sound of leaves and emotion, laughter and joy.

From there, we wandered together. No strict timeline. No stress. Just Caitlyn and Kyle, being their goofy, lovable, utterly in-sync selves. They laughed, twirled, kissed, and danced through the gardens while filming each other on Super 8 (yes, it was as magical as it sounds). Caitlyn wore her nanna’s pearls, a beautiful nod to legacy and love.

And then they lived happily ever after…

I was lucky enough to quietly capture the whole thing - every little glance, every unexpected laugh, every slow moment where time seemed to pause.
